On The Day Information for Cyclists taking Part In The Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle Saturday April 29th 2023

      Start Time:                       10am for 108 KM Route

                                                    10.15am 51 Km Route

     Assembly all cyclists:     9.30am

     Registration/Sign in       Friday April 28th 6.00 – 7.30pm

                                                     Saturday April 29th 7.45 – 9.30am

The Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle is being organised under the auspices of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute and insurance is being provided at no extra cost to cyclists through its insurance partner, Allianz.

  1. There is no registration fee as such but cyclists are asked to raise a minimum of €100/ €60 (juniors) to participate. We ask that you to present your sponsorship card and money or details of online fundraising at time of sign in.
  2. Cyclists will be issued with a Bib Number and a Wristband. Both must be worn during the day. The Wristband together with Bib Number gives you access to the food stops and post cycle meal. These must be worn throughout the day.
  3. For health and safety reasons hard shell cycling helmets must be worn during the event and the use of ear-buds while cycling is prohibited.
  4. Junior cyclists (U16) must be accompanied by an adult for the cycle. All cyclists U18 must have our consent form signed by a parent on the day.
  5. The ATU  Campus is next to Mayo University Hospital and has shared access roads at the front and back of the buildings. All cyclists, motorists and pedestrians are asked to be mindful of emergency vehicles at all times.

 

Parking: Ample car parking facilities will be available to the rear and side of the campus. Follow directional signage and the instructions of marshals.
Showers and changing facilities are available at ATU.
Therapy Room: Cyclists feeling the pain are welcome to a short treatment after the cycle subject to availability.

Refreshments

Water and snack stops will be in place along both routes and cyclists are welcome to a lunch of soup and sandwiches in Foxford (51Km) or Ballina (108Km). On return to ATU hot food will be served. This is complimentary for cyclists. There is a charge of €12/€6 for non- cycling adults and children. Please advise in advance if bringing guests.

SAFETY NOTICE
Our event is a leisure cycle not a race and it takes place on open roads. Cyclists obey the rules of the road at all times showing courtesy and consideration for other road users and riding in a manner that is safe for themselves and others. All cyclists participate at their own risk and they must rely on their own ability in dealing with all hazards. We ask that you please obey the instructions of marshals, helpers and support staff at all times. When out on open roads we ask that cyclists ride maximum two abreast when safe to do so and go in single file when necessary. 

WHAT TO BRING

  • Route Map with emergency numbers (Available at Sign-In)
  • Hard Shell Helmet (this is obligatory)
  • Water Bottle
  • Energy Bar in case you get hungry between food stops!
  • Mobile Phone
  • Cash/credit card for emergency
  • Spare Tube, Pump and Tyre Lever in case of a puncture
  • Drinks Bottle/Snack
  • Rain Jacket
  • and hopefully Sunscreen! 

Your registration number will be issued at sign in and must be worn, visibly, to the front for the duration of the cycle. You will also be issued with a wristband that gives you access to the food stops and the meal. This must be worn throughout the day.
Remember: NO NUMBER NO CYCLE!
